We meet in Eaton Park on Sunday 17 August, from 11am onwards
This event is in memory of Christine who was a valued member of the Rouen/ Norwich twinning committee and of the Friends of Eaton Park. She instigated the creation of this petanque terrain in the park. The terrain is behind the cafe and next to the tennis courts in the centre of the park.
All you need to bring is yourselves and a picnic. There are a couple of benches but for your own comfort a chair is advisable. If you have your own boules, please bring them but there will be enough to share if you have not. Boules are also available, for a deposit, from the cafe.
The café does very good food and refreshments if you have not managed to get a picnic together.
Paid parking is available at the top and bottom of the park and no parking restrictions in a few streets near the park.
Please bring friends and family and it would be great to introduce some youngsters to pétanque and the Rouen Twinning Group. If you are a beginner, an experienced player, or just want to watch and socialise you will be welcome. There is a table tennis table next to the petanque terrain and also a set of Kubb (google it) available for a deposit from the cafe. You may just prefer to sit and chat.
The idea is to have a good time. Come and go as you want. We tend to disperse around 3.00 given good weather. but we can stay as long as we want.
See you there. NO NEED TO INDICATE IF YOU ARE COMING OR NOT.

We will be meeting in the car park of the Upton White Horse (17 Chapel Road, Upton, Norfolk, NR13 6BT) ready to set off at 10am for the first walk of the day.
Morning walk: this will take us down Upton Dyke and along the river for coffee at the Acle Bridge Inn. We return to the White Horse along grassy paths and through woodland, so the ground may be uneven and/or muddy. There are no hills to speak of. There will be bird-spotting opportunities – bring binoculars! About 2 miles.
Afternoon walk: after lunch (see below) we will go for a circular walk across the marshes. We go along a track and then the well-used path along the Bure river bank. No hills. Just less than 2 miles.
Lunch arrangements: If you prefer to miss the walk, join us for lunch at the White Horse from 12.30, and we'll eat at 1pm. You can see the menu on their website. Please let us know before Friday 5 September that you are coming, and your lunch orders, via the Contact page.
... will include (check back for dates nearer the time):
January: our annual celebration of the Epiphany, French style, enjoying Galettes des Rois
March: group walks
May: our Rouen visitors will come to visit us. Planning is under way and we are looking forward to welcoming them.
For the millennium of William the Conqueror's birth, major celebrations are being planned in Normandy, the UK, and indeed across Europe, wherever the Normans were influential – a surprisingly high number of countries!
Our 2027 page will keep track of all the events planned.
